The number one threat to both captive

and wild cockatoos are

human-cockatoo conflict. A farmer

may poison cockatoos who are eating

their crop or maybe a person who is

struggling to feed their family will see a

cockatoo nest and see a quick buck to

be made. Or the pet owner who can't

handle their cockatoo's screaming

anymore so they have locked their bird in the

basement or are considering surrendering their bird.

In all of these situations people make decisions that

causes harm to cockatoos. We believe in order to help cockatoos we have to help the people find peace

with these beautiful birds. We can apply the

techniques developed by human rights activists

to help create a world where both cockatoos

and humans can thrive together.

Get Involved

• Safe Forests for Wild Cockatoos

The wild is not a great place to be for a lot of cockatoos. Poaching, deforestation, and climate change are all harming wild cockatoos. We must work with the people who share their countries with cockatoos to preserve a future where cockatoos can live life free from the danger of us.

• An End to the Commercial Pet Trade

Most people would never purchase a monkey or a tiger as a "pet." For some reason though other wild animals such as cockatoos are often kept as "pets". The average household is not equipped to care for a wild animal such as cockatoo properly because of this the average cockatoo gets rehomed once every two years of its life. We must work together to end this cycle.

The World We Seek

• People Working Together for Cockatoos

Although we dream of a world where cockatoos are not bred for the pet trade, that is not our current reality. We do not believe in vilifying the folks who share their lives with cockatoos. We believe in celebrating those people who are caring for these beautiful birds in captivity. By empowering cockatoo guardians with as many resources as possible we can help make sure that the birds will have the best lives possible.

Habitat Restoration

We are dedicated to working with nonprofits in Indonesia to help restore the forests by replanting trees. This not only helps cockatoos survive into the future it helps the local people survive into the future.  Our goal is to help plant 1,000 trees in 2025.

Our Work

It will take a village, well several villages, to help save the cockatoos. We have unique programs designed to help those villages.

Educational Programs

People can't do better until we know better. We have a variety of educational programs ranging from online resources to our educational outreach program, "The Cockatoo Encounter"

Wildlife Protection

Cockatoos in Indonesia and Australia face similar and very different threats at the same time. By working with organizations that are on the ground in those countries we are helping protect wild cockatoos. We are raising funds to help rewild cockatoos that have been injuried or had been illegally stolen from the wild for the pet Trade.

Supporting Rescues

Running a bird rescue is hard enough. We try to make it a little easier by hosting toy creation workshops and then donate those bird Toys to rescues throughout the country.

Working Together   To Save   Cockatoos

CockatooLoganMatia.jpg

About Us

The Cockatoo Peace Project was born out of our original educational outreach program, The Cockatoo Encounter. The program was founded by Logan Jimenez and often visits schools, libraries, and Renaissance faires to teach folks about the extraordinary lives of cockatoos and why they do not make good pets.

We believe by helping the people who care for captive cockatoos and the people who share their backyards with wild cockatoos we can help save cockatoos from abuse, abandonment, and extinction.
